AUCKLAND SHEEP FARM TOURS
NEW ZEALAND SHEEP FARM
Many overseas people link sheep with New Zealand. For decades it has become as iconic as the the All Black’s doing the haka at the beginning of a rugby game! But what you might not be aware of, is that the New Zealand Tourism Councils (of Tourism New Zealand), are adamantly aiming to dissuade overseas visitors from viewing New Zealand as one big sheep farm. (Their actual “target market” is for the high adrenaline tours like bungee etc, which may not suit everyone!!). True, there is a lot of differing scenery with lots of things to do throughout the whole of New Zealand, however, our [almost daily] requests from overseas visitors to “visit a sheep farm” is proof that there are folk who still want to see sheep when they visit New Zealand.
The average size of a REAL New Zealand sheep farm is many hundreds of acres…(with several thousands of sheep!)…usually far away from the large cities, and certainly NO where near Auckland (which is the largest city in New Zealand). If you are traveling throughout our country and have the opportunity to visit such a large sheep “station” (as it is termed), then our advice to you would be to do it!!! But the reality of things is that most people coming to NZ won’t be traveling that far away, and many people will be just staying within Auckland with very limited traveling time.
There are a couple of “purpose-built” sheep show [public attractions] hours drive out of Auckland, which may suit your requirements if you want the commercialised “sheep shows” or Disneyland theme type place suitable as a “kids attraction”.
These are: Agrodome in Rotorua (3 – 4 hours drive from Auckland), and SheepWorld (1+ hours drive from Auckland).
If you are doing a New Zealand Cruise tour, there are several tours in Akaroa (South Island) which visit a farm. But many cruise boat passengers are so disappointed when this part of their cruise is cancelled because there are many times when the cruise boat cannot sail into Akaroa Harbour due to bad seas. If you are a cruise boat passenger and have your farm visit cancelled, you can always have your sheep farm experience with our tour here in Auckland!
Please contact us…we’d love to host you.
But please do note:
Our sheep farm is NOT a commercialised purpose-built attraction.
We are a REAL sheep farm… and we have opened our home as part of our tour,
BUT we are NOT “open to the Public” and certainly NO other tour company has access (which makes your tour a PRIVATE visit!)
…Stu has been a sheep farmer all of his working life, and we have REAL working dogs, and a REAL woolshed!
Our sheep farm is the ONLY sheep farm just 40 minutes from Auckland city available as part of an Auckland tour
PLUS… all of our Auckland tours bring you inside our historic Homestead where we LIVE
Our family came to this farm in 1922
We welcome you to look inside our Homestead, (which is a typical “kiwi” home and a Colonial-style house), and you’ll also enjoy a Tasting Platter of iconic NZ foods!
We’ll show you some interesting New Zealand-lifestyle features and historic photos of the area. Enjoy interacting with our many animals, and feeding and touching pet sheep and lambs. Walk through our New Zealand Native garden on the way to our woolshed where there is a wool display.
…visit our woolshed (built in 1930) to learn all about NZ wool production.
Due to the mainly Adult itinerary, our tours are not [really] suitable for young children
