This innovative ‘UNIQUE-to-Auckland’ native tree planting project saw Coast to Coast Tours a finalist in the 2009 Manaakitanga (Hospitality) Awards for Sustainability.

Visitors on the tour become joint custodians of the “tree-of-the-day”. But, there is still the opportunity to purchase & plant your private tree from our nursery as well. Maybe for a special occasion…a birthday, wedding anniversary, remembering a loved one, a tree for your children, or for an organisation to offset emissions during a Conference in Auckland!

During the Coast to Coast Eco-tours there will be carbon emissions going into the atmosphere. Carbon is one of the things that is thought to be contributing to climate change. It is known that trees can remove this carbon from the air, for as the tree grows it stores carbon into its wood. NZ Native hardwood trees are very good at doing this.

Statistics aren’t precise, but it is estimated that one tree can absorb anywhere upto 48lbs of carbon per year, and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings!

(That is; approximately 1 tonne of carbon is absorbed per acre of trees, per year)

The trees will be totally protected forever by our Local NZ Government Law which will prohibit anyone cutting it down.

Later on, your tree will be planted out into our own farm’s Forest Reserve.
We are in effect ‘donating’ parts of our sheep farm back to Nature.
It is our aim to re-plant these areas to how the original bush was prior to early farmland development.
